The battle belongs to the Lord
The Bible is the book that has promises for each of us. As a Christian, we have a sword and a shield. The Bible is our shield. It protects us from all the dangers that lurk. Our prayer is our sword. A weapon that you can use against the visible and the invisible enemy.
As a Christian, we believe that everything that happens in this world will happen with the knowledge and permission of God. God allowed the great flood and saved Noah. God allowed Job to go through the tribulations. God did allow his son to be put up on the cross so that we can be saved. And the Bible does tell us that we will face many battles in our lives. So, let us not ask Why God, but understand what God wants us to do in this situation.
Pray to overcome
Have faith and pray. God wants that from you today of all the days. Pray from your heart. Pray with your family. Pray to overcome what might befall us. Jonah 3:10 “When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened.” The verse tells how God relents and saves us from the destruction that can befall us. Jonah knew that our God is “a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity”. So, our prayers will surely be answered.
What do we need to do to protect ourselves?
Take adequate precautions. Take care of your health. It is Gods holy body. Be careful and not careless. I Corinthians 6:19 says “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own”. So, let us protect our bodies like the temple of God and that will prevent the virus from affecting us.
Repent
God has given us the intelligence to guard ourselves. If we have made a mistake, this is the time to repent. Our success, our money is all nothing when we fear the invisible virus. If we have been proud, we need to seek forgiveness. In Colossians 2:8, we are told ”See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”. If people have led us astray with false philosophies of the world, now is the time to rectify that.
Obey the government rules / Law.
Romans 13: 1 says: Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
So, if God has appointed an authority above you, you are supposed to respect that authority and not resist the authority. At times, we may not be able to fathom the government and its regulations, but God is in control.
Will you be safe from the coronavirus?
The Bible has enough answers for us. Psalm 91 is a soothing and promising chapter for you to read in these troubled times. Verse 3 says “Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.” Verse 5 & 6 say: “You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.” It is a soothing promise for every troubled mind on how God will protect us.
For all my healthcare friends in every part of the world, I have an additional verse for you. “Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.” Is in Proverbs 24:11 and I think in the times we live, it signifies our fight against the corona virus and our help for all the brothers and sisters around us. We are given the mantle to rescue those suffering from the virus. We have to save them.
Psalm 23 will soothe you
If you are still doubtful and panic. Memorize Psalm 23. It is something that has helped me many times when doubts, fears and unpredictable situations were about to overcome me. It is as soothing as Psalm 91. Every night before you sleep, read Psalm 23 or say it as a prayer if you remember the verses. Dwell on each verse as you say it and understand what God wants to tell you through it.
I recently read somewhere where someone compares the corona virus with the analogy Jesus gave about the faith that we need to have. The corona virus is a small invisible organism. If we have the faith just the size of a mustard seed, we will be able to move mountains. So, when we can move mountains, what is a smaller than a mustard seed sized virus for our all powerful God?
Be faithful, repent, read the Bible and Pray. The virus will soon be history. Of course, our human minds will fear and doubt. Peter did falter when the tried to walk on the water. Thomas did ask to check out the wounds of Jesus. They were with him and when the disciples had doubts, it is but natural that every one of our minds will have some doubts. But, our faith and prayer will soon get rid of these doubts and give us a peace that passeth all understanding.
